This introduction to the rationale behind the changing curriculum was highly useful, especially when considering the first Computing assignment will be in regards to this subject. After watching an interview with Michael Gove, a comparison between his statement and the imposed aims and purpose of study from Computing 2014 shows progression through an exciting and challenging curriculum. However, the subject is still not valued as highly as Mathematics, English or Science within schools, representing a need for further development still.
Prior to this seminar, I had limited knowledge on the subject of algorithms, however, I now know considerably more on the topic and would feel confident teaching (particularly at KS1 level). Furthermore, the importance of the wording of the definition of an algorithm was highlighted to me and so when teaching, I will now to continually ask the children for the definition and ensure their understanding.
AN ALGORITHM IS A SERIES OF SPECIFIC STEPS WHICH SOLVE A PARTICULAR PROBLEM.
